I have tried this, and posted some pics in C&V, it works great, especially on chrome.

Yes, it's a good tool for removing rust.

However, removing the rust, doesn't restore the material back to original strength. Nor does it eliminate the roughness that invites faster rusting in the future.

Removing rust is good, not having it in the first place is better.

I have seen several posts on rust removal here and in C&V. Just thought I'd add one more how-to.
Pretty good sized barrel he's got there.

I don't get it. You're in Texas, I didn't think you folks had rust issues. Now if you were in the Northeast or Midwest......

BTW- I know folks who've done similar in their bathtubs (when the wife was out of town).

I live on the Texas gulf coast where the humidity is upwards of 90% with salt air. We can get rust.
Maybe not salt on the roads (except for this winter, everyone freaked out "oh my gosh, ice!!" ).
People around here can barely drive in the rain much less ice.

What product do you suggest using to prevent rust?

I was just pulling your leg about no rust in Texas. But I know about the Gulf Coast. I have a home in Cozumel, MX which enjoys staggering humidity year round, with trade winds bringing salt air on a steady basis.

The island is missing it's true economic calling which is environmental testing. Nothing lasts, cars rust, refrigerator motors rot out in a few years, aluminum satellite dishes dissolve in 3-4 years, etc. The island has wide unpopulated areas where stuff could be left out to see how it survives.
