I have considered using a trailer, or otherwise doing shopping on my bike, but I either have to cross a bridge on a sidewalk, or take a road past a sign that proclaims "Targeted Enforcement Area" which is right before the 35 mph speed limit sign where if I drive 45 I quickly get a line of cars impatiently waiting behind me... and no shoulder to get away from the speed demons.
I did buy where I did for recreational cycling, but if I ever move again, I will have to consider the ability to cycle to the store as a major factor in my decision.
PS - Right after I bought my house they raised the speed limit to 55 along the road I liked (which means people drive 65) on a 2 lane road, and added rumble strips to the middle of the shoulder.
PPS - Remember, chocolate mile has the ideal ratio of carbs and protein for a recovery drink...
I hate that! There are a few roads around here that would be great for riding but there is a little too much traffic and what would be a good sized riding shoulder was cut down to unusable with those stupid rumble strips.
