The ft der cage is usually aligned WRT the chain rings, not the chain as the chain line angles change with which rear cog is in play.
Won't the friction lever control the der's movement to allow a middle position?
Ft der position is a combination of cage height off the large ring, twist on the frame (or cage/ring near parallel), range limit screws and cable pull control. Andy.
