Not to quibble, but this depends on what you mean by "best".
The point I tried to make earlier is that
there are two variable factors at play, the angle between the cable and a line from cable end to pivot, and the cable tension. Which one is dominant is not intuitively obvious at all until you have analyzed how they both vary with straddle cable length. For those cantilevers any change as a result of the angle dominates any change you can get in tension. For centerpulls that relationship isn't the same.
Yes it is nice to have the ability to adjust them. Sometimes you may want more power, sometimes you may want more linearity or modulation.
