I also think that if you're worried about not liking it, you could always just pick up a beater bike, and if you hate it you're not out that much.

The route I went was to get a beater, and when I ended up liking it I bought from the LBS so that I was sure that I got the right size and got everything adjusted as it should be. Happy as a clam
