Howdy all - first post on the forums.

I started a big diet last September (at 227 lb) using MyFitnessPal to track calories. Right off the bat, I began riding my neighbor's 'cross bike, dipping my toes in the cycling waters.

Shortly thereafter (say, 215 lb), I bought a Cannondale Synapse and began road cycling.

This morning, I crossed the 60 lb mark (167 lb now), and I've been having a lot of fun with the bike, if only mostly casually. Still only averaging about 20 mi/week @ 13-14 mph, and a 25-or-so-mile ride is still my longest.

That is to say, I don't really ride often enough, long enough, or hard enough for the calories burned to really directly contribute much to the weight loss, but simply having cycling as a complement to my diet is just enough to really keep me motivated and get me outdoors.

I just joined a gym a few weeks ago to begin adding some strength training to my routine. I'm hoping to add some muscle to support my endurance and stability of form, as one of my biggest issues toward longer rides is that I think I'm still putting too much weight on my hands (hand numbness issues on the "longer" rides).

Anyway, congrats to all here! As for me, I'm on to loose just a few more pounds, perhaps, and off to ride many more miles.

See y'all 'round the forums.
