That sounds ********. California has different formats as well. Under 21 and your license is Bricker instead of horizontal. If you have a vehicle license and you want to buy beer, I doubt they will just turn you down. They will at least look at your birth date and look to see your picture matches you.
Plus, if you are over 21 and wasn't the new format, just go to the DMV and say you lost your license and need a new one. They'll give you an updated one in the new format.
In SC, even if you lose it, they still give you the old one until it expires. I guess the monkeys at the DMV here haven't figured out how to switch the format. I have moved several times and lost a couple and each time they give me the same "Under 21" license regardless of which one I request. They say that it's "policy." Tax dollars hard at work...
