OP the thing to look for is a thing called BCD = http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_bo-z.html. The magic number is 144 for omniums; any chainring with a BCD of that will fit although I've heard with earlier omniums the stock bolts are shorter than standard and might have to be replaced when using an alternate ring.
