Secrets (shh!)
Proper adjustment of derailleurs.
Correct cable housing length (too long slows shifting, too short creates friction)
Older chains can develop side flex and slow shifting, older cogs/chainwheels can develop wear with same effect.
Grip Shift may just be slower, or you may be slower with your wrist than with your fingers.
