It could have been a straight forward thread discussing regular hats, and not helmets. It should be possible to discuss head covers or without it becoming about helmets. One can even have head "protection" besides impact protection such as UV protection for the hair disadvantaged.

I didn't track the thread, but it seems to be staying put for now, which is good news.

On the other hand, even here on BF there few who'd bother preaching to a small packet of paper, although many would preach to those who sing in church.
