Redwood is super fast on a freewheel but I think I couldn't keep up with the cadence going fixed even though it does flatten out considerably.
Yeah, the descents always make me want a freewheel. Holding my rpms down to 120 or so really starts to get on my nerves when I know what riding down hills like redwood or papa bear at 40-50 mph feels like. I love the way fixed feels too much - though if I ever stop buying things for this bike and save my money for a bit I think a solid, classic road bike would be a nice thing to take out in the hills every once in a while.
Going uphill in some spots around here really just involves manhandling your bike and making ever effort to destroy your bottom bracket.
