Bontrager Trip 300 Computer Question

I just installed a Bontrager Trip 300 (Ant+ wireless - not yet GPS enabled) computer. All seems to be fine but I am confused about something.

According to the manual you tell the computer to 'start a new ride' (zero out memory and start the ride now) you press the 'bottom button' (possibly cycling through a couple of options - hard to tell from the manual).

On my (new) computer this does not work. What does work is to press and hold (3'ish seconds) the top button. Then you do get the simple dialog stated in the manual.

I'm curious if there are any other Bontrager 300 users out there. This seems most odd to me. The difference in how it really works and how it is defined to work does not look like kind of manual error that would 'slip through'. And if you look online at the manual (which, oddly enough, has no English version unlike the other models) the online version has the same 'error'.

Thanks.
