So after about 23, 000 miles I finally had the shift housing underneath the handlebar tape replaced. I am never going to wait that long again. Mechanical DuraAce shifts pretty nice with fresh housing and cable. Yes, Di2 shifts better, but for the riding that I do, mechanical shifts well enough and the price difference can pay for a lot of a cable and housing, and a wheelset.
