I wasn't saying you can't build a nice ass steel bike. I just don't think you can build a light one on a small budget. (Not a weight weenie but lugging around a 25 pound bike sucks if you ride a lot of miles)
You completely missed my implied point, which is that there is little difference in weight between comparable quality steel and aluminum/carbon bikes. The components on my Rush are pretty ordinary in terms of weight and I didn't buy any uber light expensive stuff for it. Also, my el-cheapo Chinese bikesdirect bikes are stock in the 21 to 23 pound range, and the only 25 pound bike I have is the hi-ten all steel components SE Draft. Cheap aluminum bikes are just as heavy as cheap steel bikes.
