You completely missed my implied point, which is that there is little difference in weight between comparable quality steel and aluminum/carbon bikes. The components on my Rush are pretty ordinary in terms of weight and I didn't buy any uber light expensive stuff for it. Also, my el-cheapo Chinese bikesdirect bikes are stock in the 21 to 23 pound range, and the only 25 pound bike I have is the hi-ten all steel components SE Draft. Cheap aluminum bikes are just as heavy as cheap steel bikes.

Repost.
Entry level steel v. entry level aluminum and I'd agree with you and I ride the same set up with a little higher gearing int he metro area I live in. so it's double agreement. Find you a good steel bike, it's a nice change of pace.
On a slightly related note, it's seem so silly that all these threads get started with a low budget and nobody says "hey maybe you should find a good used deal since you'll probably ruin the bike anyways." Especially since it takes a little bit of mechanical know how to get a Bikes Direct bike up and running.

This is what I propose the OP do; buy a used bike. Or a frame off eBay.

Aye... and an important one at that. Smart folks will pick the Aventon and be $30 closer to saving up for their first good bike.
But seriously, props to derpc1192 for going the extra mile and including that little accent mark over the O. That's the kind of attention to detail you just don't see in trolls nowadays.

OP girl (or dude) just needs attention.
and ppl here are nice enough giving it to her.
the best way to stop the circle of stupidity in general is ignoring, i "hear".
