I hear ya, but if you ask a manufacturer what their bike weighs (or read the weight in a catalog), you will get the number for what I call showroom condition. It doesn't have to make sense, but it exists. Some people say bike weight is the weight they way THEY take it out for a ride with tools, and water, and the kitchen sink. That makes sense to them, but provides no basis for comparison by another cyclist. I like the showroom or catalog weight number, because it allows me to compare to what I could buy off the rack. The extras that I add on are going to be the same on any bike.
