And now that I've alienated just about everyone, I'll admit that I like a good single malt on occasion (without ice, you heathens) and also a fine sipping tequila, like Cuervo Reserva de la Familia or Porfidio Anejo Single Barrel. I just have a hard time justifying the three figure prices.
On the whole, I'll take a decent rye whisky, like the Canadians that Sixty-Fiver mentioned. For $35-$50 for a very good one, it's hard to go wrong. And failing that, Jack Daniels is a perfectly fine bourbon, despite its low-brow image and disdain from the snobs.
