Happy New Year

The frame I bought off ebay came with a shimano English BB. I bought a campy avanti chainset 52/42 as I thought a square taper was a square taper, which I now realise isn't. The chainset goes on but not as far as it should(I think) especially on the non drive side which sticks out more, the drive side isn't too bad.

I was told it should fit but it sticks out more than on my work bike which has a shimano BB/chainset. Do Campy chainsets stick out more?

Do I need a campy BB? If so what width? The English ones are 102mm which seems too narrow(current shimano one is 115mm) or 114mm which are advertised for a triple chainset. There doesn't seem anything in between. Also, do campy chainsets have different square tapers?

Did not want to buy something that was not necessary. Done that already!
