The weather forecast is not always right. I knew I was not going to ride to breakfast with my friends today, as it was forecast to rain at 9:45. I figured I could get a quick spin in locally as the weather was warmer then it has been in the last 2 weeks. I left the house at 8:00 on the fixed gear bike and it got a little damp. I was getting a little rain at 8:10. I kept tapping the rear brake to sense traction. At 8:15 I went to test the brake and the lever had a layer of ice! I nursed the bike to a very slippery stop and got off and walked it through a U-turn. I got back on and rode gently on the shoulder/grass. At 8:20 the township (bless their hearts) salted the road and I was tip-toeing on the side of the road when the read wheel started to skid. The pedals stopped turning :-/ I got stopped w/o falling and looked at the wheel. All was well. I looked at the bottom bracket and the left cup had backed out and jammed against the crank. I was about 2 miles from home and I was walking. I walked about 1/2 mile and some dude (Ted) stopped and offered me a lift. I was home safe at 9:00. At 10:15 I was in Church thanking the lord for a safe return. Ride Safe (Or today = Don't ride) Joe
