To each his own.

I find that the BMX pedal/velcro strap combo much easier and more comfortable than clips and straps. The wider contact area of the strap on the top of your foot feels more secure to me. Never had any discomfort. Also you get slightly more clearance without toe clips and don't have toe clips catch on ground when walking the bike or scuff the front of your shoes. Very easy and quick to adjust to whatever you might be wearing on your feet. I can see how they don't look as classic as clips and straps but for function, think they are way better.

I find that I push my foot forward on the pedal and it just wedges my foot into the strap until the pressure is uncomfortably noticeable. Plus, I think they are more awkward to get into than toe clips. I much prefer conventional toe straps and steel toe clips. Double straps are super nice on a fixed gear.
