Yeah its not normal, most racers ride a 53/39 or something like that up front. I don't and run a 34/50 due to where I live and the routes I ride. If I ran a 53 up front I might of had to run a 15 in the back. During roll out they said I was super close to failing with 50-14, I thought that was strange because people have run a 52-14 and passed before. Maybe it is because my tires are taller than average, but I only run 23's so I don't know.
If it was tested and not just the nominal combinations like 53 front/14 rear/23mm tires, what kind of testing did they do to tell that you were really "close"?
