For me, it is because of something entirely different. I was watching a story on airline crash investigations. The crew in question, had turned off the TCAS(Total Collision Avoidance System). The crew's reasoning was because all the auditory warnings were becoming distracting.

So, While a driver may not be able to disable the auditory sensor warnings. They could ignore them.
