They don't need rim tape. I owned an older set with the same little piece of tape, no rim tape was used and I neve had any problems. They are not aero or wide like today's standards but not a bad wheelset. Not a super deal either but you did agree to pay what you did at time of purchase. Ride email and enjoy your new wheels.
