Can't hurt to post some pics of the OP's bike. There might be alternatives to painting or there might not be.
Here are some photos of my bike, with the head tube decal and some areas where paint has been lost. These photos don't convey the extent of paint loss on the down tube and other areas, but give an idea. Much as I would like to keep it as is, I really want to use the bike and live near the coast, so I would like to make sure it is protected.
