The bike was partially disassembled & reassembled many, many times to fit into a travel case, so over the years the seat post got really scratched up from wiggling it back and forth to get it in and out. There was a carved moon that broke off somewhere along the way (you can tell in the third pic where it used to be) and the rough edge contributed to the scratches, too.
