O.k I noticed this thread is old but still replaying. I know it is a pain to carry a ulock + cable but so far I find that to be very effective when looking the bike make sure you lock the wheels to the frame of the bike then the bike to a post or bike rack look the pictures
Ideally, you want to use two different locking system to be more secure, but that's not always practical. If you're lazy about locking your wheels up you can alternatively use security skewers or hose clamp the quick release lever.
