If it's about wicking or drying ability, you will get the same results with merino. I had polypro socks but i throw them away because they smell horribly bad very fast without any advantage over my merino socks

Look at the mass of water per specimen.
What this table says is that when water is in liquid form the type of fabric material doesn't matter just its thickness.
When water is in vapor form then regain values apply.
According to this same table polypro doesn't dry any faster than wool.

Fibers with the highest regain have the best ability to buffer humidity and temperature changes by absorbing and releasing water vapor from the environment and human sweat.
