If it's about wicking or drying ability, you will get the same results with merino. I had polypro socks but i throw them away because they smell horribly bad very fast without any advantage over my merino socks
iMerino :: Wicking

the higher the surface energy the easier a surface is to become wet from liquid water

Look at the mass of water per specimen.
What this table says is that when water is in liquid form the type of fabric material doesn't matter just its thickness.
When water is in vapor form then regain values apply.
According to this same table polypro doesn't dry any faster than wool.

Fibers with the highest regain have the best ability to buffer humidity and temperature changes by absorbing and releasing water vapor from the environment and human sweat.

vegan ≠ merino
allergies ≠ polyester
active + all weather ≠ cotton
good/modern polypro doesn't stink like the crap/older stuff. i just can't find decent polypro bike socks anywhere.

Bikes: Fuji Touring, Fuji ACR 2.0, Roubaix & a Peugeot of mid 1980's vintage, orig 12 vitesse, now a single speed. Converted to fixie/single speed before I got it.
Or, there is my method for socks: Don't wear them when temps are gonna be above 55-ish F degrees. Shoes are Nashbar Ragster II sandals. Let the toes feel the breeze! Keep the socks for colder weather riding. And then, they are thick wool socks.

Depending on where those sheeps are, they can be harmed. Some companies just don't care and some do. It's just recently that well known brands started to realize there were some problems with their suppliers.

erig007 - thanks for the amazon links, but the socks that show up in those searches are either liner socks, or polyester blends, or... not what i'm looking for.
Leebo - i'm not seeing polypro socks on their web-site, except for one pair of liners.

Target carries a 100% (poly sock under the Champion name, as I have purchased several pairs. Check out your local store, they come in smaller quantities and higher prices than the cotton blend version. I also must second the Merino wool sock recommendation.
