according to the bulgier pages, the '79 has a 5-speed, the '80 has a 6-speed, and the '81 has bottle bosses. since mine's a 6 and without bottle bosses, i am guessing '80. bulgier shows it came with shifter bosses in '82.

Catalog specs were never reliable or accurate.... They were usually produced in the late summer or early fall to be ready for the Xmas buying spree. Also for spring/summer of the following year. So the 1979 catalog was probably put together in 1978 and so on.

Just a starting point and guideline.
