I think Expeditions are so outrageously cool.
They have all the "bells and whistles" in terms of braze ons and features, I think that "battleship gray" Jeep color is totally the business. If I'm not mistaken, they were also outfitted with the best components available. That Mountech front derailleur and the Sugino AT crankset are THE best ever.
Plus they're also pretty rare- so that gets added into the cool factor cachet.
As an aside- I have an 84 Stumpjumper Sport- it's the same color. For whatever reason, I see Expeditions, Sequoias and Stumpjumpers in that color- and I subconsciously think that they're heavy as a tank. Of course, that's totally off base, but it's just the way I associate it. I think I've read that the Expeditions were made of the high grade Ishiwata tubing- just an all around great bike.
