I wouldn't cut it for 3 mm. Spacers are your friends.

Sorry if this is obvious, but can i still run spacer(s) with this kind of headset? The lockring is the pin spanner piece is the photo above.

It has been going strong with yearly repacking and it's the original headset from the 90's - it used to have F Moser Rudelli stamped on it.
