I've never had it die. I've even stored it for months on end with a full charge and after turning it, even after being put away for months on end, it still had more than 2/3 of a charge left.
If you don't need the screen to view the photos, the WD is the way to go. The Hyperdrive is expensive: I believe the Hyperdrive that I linked to does not include a hard drive, but if you have a spare notebook HDD lying around, it is something to keep in mind.
