When I say junk food, I don't really mean oreos and cheetos tho...I usually stay away from fast food and processed food as much as possible. I think most of my issue is portion control - oh burrito, you're so good, I will eat all of you. We also go out to eat more often than not, which doesn't help either. And I drink a lot. I'm not really into soda or tea, so I mostly just drink water and alcoholic beverages, of course, the alcoholic beverages tend to happen nightly, plus more on the weekends. I've been cutting back beer recently and just drinking hard liquors mixed with club soda and a bit of lime juice, which is about as low calorie as you can get when it comes to consuming alcohol. *shrug*
I think that portion control for us Americans might be the biggest issue. I found some research that studied over 150 meals from restaurants and found the average meal to be 1700 calories. It is likely that most American men in their forties and fifties should be eating 1800-2000 calories per day. So, those numbers are rather problematic. In the end, each person needs to decide what is more important to them, enjoying their food or seeing food as energy for a healthy lifestyle.
