I've given up worrying about that. I'll allow some rub in the one or two most cross-chained gear positions. I just count that rub as being a reminder to me to shift into some other gear combination when I'm able.

I'll tune out the rub if I can, but I won't obsess over it for too long in the extreme cross-chain positions. I'd rather be out riding the bike at that point.
