The Easiest Tutorial on how to make FD work perfectly!

So I can never get FD to work perfectly .There is always some chain rub i.e. when cross-chaining.

Is there a great tutorial on how to get your front dereilluer perfect?

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Depending on what equipment your bike has your standards regarding no chain rubbing when cross-chaining might be unrealistic.

I like the Park Tool instructions. Be sure to do the steps in order because each adjustment that you do can affect subsequent adjustments. I think that the very first step, regarding the position of the derailleur on the seat tube, is a biggie. If that's not perfect, you can fiddle around all afternoon and never get your front derailleur to work right.

Chain rub in a cross chaining gear sounds normal, change to a different chainring when you start to hear rubbing.

Tell us what FD you have ? Its possible you might have a trim function you're not using.

Load of videos on Youtube on FD installation and adjustment.

This is the procedure I always point out: Park Tool Co. » ParkTool Blog » Front Derailleur Adjustments

As observed by others, total freedom from rub when cross-chained (which is inadvisable for other reasons) is often unavoidable.

I've given up worrying about that. I'll allow some rub in the one or two most cross-chained gear positions. I just count that rub as being a reminder to me to shift into some other gear combination when I'm able.

I'll tune out the rub if I can, but I won't obsess over it for too long in the extreme cross-chain positions. I'd rather be out riding the bike at that point.

It can be accomplished on a double usually but your can forget it on a triple. The trim function is the key.

Thanks. I have the Shimano Claris FD on one bike and a Shimano Altus FD on another.

Thanks again!
