I live in what many people would consider a fairly nice urban core neighborhood and if I left my bike out in front of the house for a couple of hours unattended I'm pretty sure it would be gone.

Ask your husband if he would leave the equivalent in cash sitting in front of the house overnight. See if that would make sense to him.
