"Just Leave It In Front Of The Garage."
My dear husband, who is otherwise in full possession of his faculties, suggested I leave my bike *overnight* in front of our garage to avoid his having to make space for it inside. "No one will steal it," he continued.
On our busy street with the meth head neighbors? He has a huge case of laziness and the it-can't-happen-to-mes. I was about to go incandescent on him when he gave in. Gah!

In my neighborhood people from the nearby subsidized apartments walk up and down the streets at night looking for open garage doors, unlocked car doors, unlocked mini barns - basically anything that isn't too difficult to get into and steal something. A bike outside of a locked house or garage wouldn't last more than a few hours around here. People have even been robbed in broad daylight. Crazy.
And to make it worse, our police department is next to useless.

Wow, that would not fly with me...
In my neighborhood I could safely park my car outside and put my bike inside my car. (Taking the front wheel off and folding down the back seats) Could you do that if you had to? Of course, if you don't own a vehicle, then disregard.

I live in what many people would consider a fairly nice urban core neighborhood and if I left my bike out in front of the house for a couple of hours unattended I'm pretty sure it would be gone.
Ask your husband if he would leave the equivalent in cash sitting in front of the house overnight. See if that would make sense to him.

Oh, he wouldn't know where to begin with getting me a bike, and he knows it. I'm too particular and am a bit overfond of modifying my ride.

He actually does support my riding, offering to watch the kids on my usual time so I can ride. He even dropped me off in Akron and picked me up in Cleveland so I could do the towpath trail there and waited for me at the end cheering. I just think he had a major lazy brain fart.
