If you want to use the 26.4 crown race just file down the fork until it fits. I've done this before. It takes some care and you don't want to go too far. You also want to make sure you keep it relatively round. But it's not too hard.
Ah! Thank you, you're amazing. I was hoping something like that would work. Do you know of any guides to help me figure out how best to do that? I'd take it to my LBS, but I'm currently trying to force myself to build a bike up from scratch on my own so I can actually learn to do this.
I figured out that a powder coat wouldn't hold up from whenever I needed to adjust the locknut, so I was looking into DIY anodization, which, after doing some reading, sounded about as safe as a meth lab. So this has been a big help.
