I went ahead and ordered the standard Kool Stop Dura 2 pads and shoes and they fit fine. Just for the record the Shimano pads do not fit the Bontrager shoes out of the box. You have to trim off a small amount of the pad that is used as a stop on the Shimano shoes or they will not go in far enough to put in the set screw. I knew this but the Trek dealer did not hence the lack of confidence in them.
