Any "8-speed" chain will work fine. Back when your Schwinn was new (and I was working in bike shops) derailleur chains had 112 links and then we shortened them to appropriate length. Here's several techniques for determining the correct length: Park Tool Co. » ParkTool Blog » Chain Length Sizing
