You have to spread the rear triangle from 126 mm to 130 mm. Some people say that's a non-issue on an aluminum frame; others say it is. I wouldn't worry about a bike that has been modified but I also wouldn't do it to my bike if I had an Al frame; I'd keep it at 126 mm and ride 7 speed.
