It would be far better to just buy this for $800. I'm not a shill for the company and inexpensive bikes come with compromises, this bike is no exception. Customer service is very mediocre, parts can require adjustment, even disassembly, to correct for inadequate lubrication, all fasteners should be checked for proper installation, etc. The fact remains, I have found, that there is a lot of value in buying a complete bike when faced with the prospect of little to be saved from the old bike.
