Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

The problem is that she shop used a Park tool. They use an oversize facer behind the reamer, and it's not all that rare that it touches the bottom of the down tube lug, if there isn't enough extension of the head tube below the joint.

Find a shop with Var, Bicycle Research or Italian head tube facing tools, and problem solved.
