Now that I lube them with carbon assembly paste (thanks Scrod) I don't have the issue, but the mark is still useful when the bike has to go in a car and the seat is removed. Makes putting them back together a bit less fiddly.
Yeah, I always score my seat posts when I get the height set. Pulled up the post there was the old score mark again.

Probably. It seems like something that you would notice on a short time scale.
For the last few days I had noticed it felt off and planned to readjust by few millimeters at most.
