Bikes: 2005 Gary Fisher Nirvana; 2010 Trek FX7.5

RedRockRider, I believe they were asking $1250. It has been taken down now but was up for a couple of months. I'm in MN so it could be in storage till spring. It was about a 3 hour drive and I didn't get a chance to see it. The owner told me the model that he had would not take the 35 tires which I prefer. I kick myself a little for not going up to see it but I wasn't sure I could justify it as I just picked up a used 7.5 last summer. It sounds like your 7.9 is a beauty. Congratulations on the nice job building it.

I think I paid just under $500 shipped, for the brand new frame and fork. I pieced together a Shimano 105 crankset, Ultegra derailleurs, and I had a set of Tiagra flat bar shifters and brakes from another bike that I sold the frame for. The wheels were a bit of a challenge as the FX frame has 135mm dropouts, but eventually scored a like new set of wheels off of ebay for a great price. Will eventually do a thread with photos.

As far as the comparison, my 2010 Giant Rapid 0 (purchased used in great condition off of Craigslist for $600) is actually much more of what I would call a "flat bar road bike" versus the Trek, which is less sporty, more hybrid. The Giant weighs in a couple of pounds lighter (partly because of the heavier wheel set on the Trek), and is a slightly more aggressive position. I keep narrower 28mm tires on it. The Trek wears 35mm.

I enjoy both of them, but I do tend to grab the Giant when riding with others, as it is a bit faster on the same course. The Trek is really a beautiful bike, a bit more comfortable, but still a quick ride. Both bikes are good for my typical ride of 25-35 miles (just did 29 miles this morning on the Giant).

How much are they asking for the 7.9 you are looking at? I don't see them listed often on ebay or craigslist, and are usually quite expensive.
