Bikes: 2011 Trek FX 7.3 | 2015 Trek FX 7.4 | Lotus Classique

Just sharing this amazingly well kept older trek fx 7.5 with my favorite friends here. this is my 5th or 6th fx and i still currently own three: this red one, a white 7.3 and a gray 7.4. i paid only $200 for this well kept machine and it weights ~20 pounds or less.

I got this for my kiddo - she's still a little young and needs to learn how to ride a big kids bike - i will likely take her wheels and put them on my 7.4

This era of the FX was when Trek gave you quality parts for the bike. The new FX offerings are so bad and I feel awful for folks being duped by the shiny new paint jobs. They are giving you inferior grips, seats and pedals and say "oh, we leave it for the customer to pick those." really? you want us to pay $1,500 for a bike and then spend $400 more on quality parts? even the wheels are junk!! such a bad value proposition now from trek. i bet this red fx weighs less than the newest high end model that's $3,000!! im absolutely infuriated by the extreme nickle and diming trek is doing on the FX and likely their other lines.

the margin on these bikes is also north of 60% as i have seen the deal price sheets. while i am all for bike shops making a decent living and supporting local business, i will not however sign up for a 60% markup for such an inferior / low cost to produce bike.

but I digress. I am going to start collecting these older FX's and look for my elanor - the bike i had and sold! it was a white 2011 (IIRC) fx 7.7 with the isozone monostay. that bike was perfection and i really regret selling it. will continue to scout online for one.

what a beauty!! looks like such a comfy around-the-town ride! even as a tall dude, i prefer the step through frames bc they're so much more practical for short rides and frequent on+offs (visiting breweries / coffee shops) hehe. what are your next plans for it...?

Thanks! I'm mostly thinking dynamo lights and maybe a Pelago rasket but it all depends on what I do with it. For now I don't have anybody around to ride it so I'll just keep it as a spare bike for when friends from abroad come to visit.
Or maybe sell it to somebody. It's a fairly small bike and most women around here are taller than that.

FX3 gen 3 chainring

Hi, I am new here as well as new to Trek Bikes. I just purchased a FX 3 Gen 3. I love the bike but I live in FL with barely any hills. I would like to increase the high gear. It is currently a 1x at 40t. Has anyone installed a 44t front sprocket or chainring? and what were the parts did you use and how do you like the change? Thank you and looking forward to have joined this site.

it's says prowheel alloy, 40t narrow wide ring on the trek website. It is the 40t that came from the factory. There is no brand name written on the actual crank thats on the bike

Then it might be one of these
But with a OEM (Trek) part, there is no guarantee that even if it looks the same the specs on the website are for your actual part.

Prowheel does not list a USA distributer or even replacement chainrings.

You might have to replace the crankset and chain (for a longer one).
Then we get into all sorts of questions like Axel diameter, axle length, and chain line.
I think a trip to the bike store might be in order, you'll get the right part first time.

Barry
