I don't do anything and I ride all winter here in NH. I have lost the oring out of one of my former pumps and had to replace the pump, otherwise I'm not too worried about it. I clean it off occasional to try to keep the crap from getting into the 'head' of the pump. Actually my trouble right now is with the floor pump leaking air out of the hose/tire mount location. I need to get it into the bike shop but haven't gotten around to it yet.
