Pump Maintenance?

I have Topeak Road Morh pumps and was wondering what maintenance you guys do for your pumps?

Mainly make sure you don't lose the knurled adjusting collar. You'll need a new pump if you do.

I suppose you could maintain the moving pump seal if you leave it out in extreme conditions.

I tried to service the moving parts in the gauge once and that wasn't worth the trouble.

Mine is in a Plastic bag in a Pannier for maintenance.. its there for on road flats

Primarily, I use my floor pump, or just top off at LBS from their compressor.

I have the road morph as well but have not had to maintain it at all so far. Here is a prior thread on similar question

Does throwing a lot of crap at it...sometime literally...and using it when I need it count as maintenance? The one on my touring bike is actually treated a bit nicer than the ones on all my other bikes. It hangs under the top tube

All the ones are on my other bikes are on the downtube.

I often ride gravel trails so mine gets pretty dusty, thus cleaning the dust off of the outside of the pump is common. I have a tiny little piece of electrical tape over the hole in the chuck to keep dust out, so for me maintenance would be to replace that tape. A few times I have taken the pump rod out of the cylinder and wiped out any dust I could with a paper towel.

I don't do anything and I ride all winter here in NH. I have lost the oring out of one of my former pumps and had to replace the pump, otherwise I'm not too worried about it. I clean it off occasional to try to keep the crap from getting into the 'head' of the pump. Actually my trouble right now is with the floor pump leaking air out of the hose/tire mount location. I need to get it into the bike shop but haven't gotten around to it yet.

If a pump hasn't been used for some time, the rubber seal may dry out and no longer seal. To prevent this, I drip a little vegetable oil down the inside of the pump which the rubber seal contacts, or with some pump designs, down the shaft that the pump handle moves when pumping. A quick check to whether this may be needed is to put your finger over the outlet hole and pump a few times to see how much pressure builds up.
