While not a big fan of his music, I became impressed by his genius when his first album came out in 1978. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_You_(Prince_album) A friend had just bought it and was all excited to show it to me... "look at the back, look at the credits". EVERY song was written and composed by him, he played EVERY instrument, he produced it and mixed it. He did everything except press the vinyl.

Prince was definitely the antithesis of the over-produced music we hear today.
