Sunday was our annual Haleiwa Metric Century that's put on by Hawaii Bike League (their other one at the end of Sep is the Honolulu Century). The weather had been nice (but fairly windy past month) but Sat was mostly overcast with passing showers. Sunday was about the same. Intermittent rain over about 1/3rd of the route (which is an out and back so you get it twice). But there were supposedly 1000 riders and that made it nice. Even though there is only a single road around the island (so 100% of the traffic in that side has to use the road) drivers were courteous, even with riders being two-abreast at times while passing and taking the lane. With the overcast it made it much easier -- the air temps are typically good here but direct sunlight will wear you down. We rolled out at 0730 so pretty much just the "dawn patrol" surfers out there but as the day went along picked up more traffic. We ride through the town of Laie which is LDS and shut down except for folks going to church including the Polynesian Cultural Center tourist attraction. I was back at the start by 1100 to complete a nice, scenic ride.
